SUMMARY TIMELINE
Secudac, in collaboration with the ABET Institute at Unisa, also trained and empowered more than 7000 police employees through an ABET training programme. This training programme not only afforded them the basic reading and writing skills, but also enabled them to enter the primary and secondary levels of education and start building a career path.
Secudac identified an upliftment and empowerment need in the tertiary education field when grade 12 students wanted to enter the tertiary education stream at Pretoria Technikon and later Tshwane University of Technology, but was unable to do so because of their inadequate Grade 12 marks. In order to enable students to enter the tertiary NQF 5 level qualifications, Secudac, in collaboration with Pretoria Technikon and at a later stage Tshwane University of Technology, developed a foundation course for learners in the law enforcement field, which enabled them to advance to higher education. A few of those foundation course students obtained their MTech degrees in Safety in Society and Policing at Tshwane University of Technology. This Foundation course was at a later stage upgraded to a Certificate Course in Criminal Justice, which also served as access course at other tertiary training institutions such as Unisa.
